VISIT OF STEPHEN CHALKE ON 4TH DECEMBER 2012

Stephen Chalke - historian, writer, publisher and broadcaster - is a name very well known in the cricket society world. His visit on Tuesday 4 December was the third time he had visited the society. Of the many good speakers who have entertained us in recent years his name was towards the top of the list of those we wished to re-invite during our 50th anniversary season. He certainly did not disappoint us. It is not possible to do justice in the few lines available here to the many very amusing stories he told us, some of them taken from his highly acclaimed book "The Way It Was". He also brought along his most recent publication of the biography he had written with Micky Stewart, considered by reviewers to be an exceptional, outstanding book. In view of his need to return to Bath that evening, the Chairman had to call a halt to proceedings at just after 10 p.m. Had he not done so, Stephen could well have been still in full flow at midnight!
